Raphaëlle “Adikou”
Small reading stages in the middle of the city? It’s possible: in the reading series “zwischen/miete”, apartments and private rooms become event venues for an evening and host authors from the youngest generation of German-language writers. The next reading will take place in November as part of the literary festival “Popup-Werkstatt: Black German Literary Perspectives” – the guest will be writer Raphaëlle Red with her debut Adikou:
Adikou’s origins are hazy, her family history blurred. Then, one oppressively hot summer, she can no longer stand it in Paris. Adikou flies to Lomé, Togo, the birthplace of her father, whom she barely knows. It is unclear what she is looking for, the questions are asked by others: Are you white, black or both, do you speak Ewe, are you traveling alone, where does your anger come from?
“Raphaëlle Red knows how to interweave beauty and pain so skillfully that I would like to recommend Adikou to everyone.” Sharon Dodua Otoo
