Kathleen Bomani

Kathleen Bomani is a multi-disciplinary artist. Born in Dar-es-salaam, Tanzania, Bomani makes work rooted in unacknowledged histories of Black Death and archives.

Bomani works with a profound sense of urgency—through rigorous research and discursive interventions, her art recognizes the critical need to protect and preserve collective memory in the face of historical and ongoing injustice. Each line of her inquiry and every single one of her excavations embodies defiance and a choreography of resistance.

Kathleen has worked with institutions such as the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art, Berlin’s Gorki theatre, UK’s Channel 4 or, most recently, the Schaubühne Lindenfels in Leipzig.
