Klemens Hegen

Klemens Hegen studied philosophy and theater studies in Leipzig and was a student director at the Akademie für Darstellende Kunst Baden-Württemberg. Since then he has worked as a freelance artist in Germany and Austria. His work is characterized by an interest in interdisciplinary exchange with other artists and extensive research. The focus is on social transformation processes and an interest in science and research. He worked with the dramaturge and author Natalie Baudy on the theater installation JETZT IMMER about the amnesia patient HM and critically examines the connection between identity and memory. In the installative performance GLETSCHER, developed together with stage designer Christin Vahl and sound artist Aki Traar, he recently worked on an archive of disappearing forms.
He has received numerous grants for his work, including from the Cultural Department of the City of Munich, the Cultural Department of the City of Stuttgart and the Cultural Department of the City of Vienna. In 2021 and 2022 he received the INITIAL scholarship from the Akademie der Künste Berlin.
