Nachtstück No. 2

Spending a night together can be a special experience: sleeping over at a friends home as a child, going through the night for the first time as a teenager, the sunrise afterwards, being stuck together at an airport. In ancient times there was a custom of staying overnight in certain temples in order to receive answers or healing from the gods in a dream. A kind of dream pilgrimage.

While the day is used productively, consciously and clearly illuminated, the night stands for the other, the unknown, the mysterious, the uncanny, for everything that cannot be strictly conceptualized. Falling out of the routine of everyday life, attention, feelings and thoughts intensify at night.
With 22 guests, O-Team embarks on an expedition to experience and reflect on this nocturnal state of mind. A transcendental sleep laboratory is being created in the project space of the Kunstverein Wagenhalle that explores the blurry in between of sleeping and waking, of dream and reality. The NACHTSTÜCK is a joint 11-hour meditative ritual with elements of object theatre, durational concert, performance and immersive art installation – in search of a tiredness that makes us more receptive, more permeable, more sensitive. O-Team invites you to come to rest, to doze, dream and sleepwalk, to be unproductive and slumber away. The scenic experiment begins late in the evening and ends in the morning with breakfast together. A bed is available for all participants.

On Dec. 6, the space will be open to visitors from 5-8 p.m. as an exhibition.
